HIV and Infant Feeding:

Navigating HIV and Infant Feeding Under the Updated HHS Guidelines

This webinar was recorded on March 25, 2026, and is available until no later than March 23, 2028

Speaker: Emily Anne Barr, PhD, CNM, CPNP-PC, ACRN, FACNM, FAAN, Associate Professor and Director of Translational Innovations in Maternal, Child, and Family Health, University at Buffalo School of Nursing

Recent updates to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Perinatal HIV Clinical Guidelines reflect a meaningful shift in how infant feeding is discussed with families living with HIV. Rather than a directive approach, the current guidance emphasizes shared decision-making in the context of sustained viral suppression and ongoing clinical support. For labor and delivery, newborn, and community healthcare teams, this change calls for thoughtful communication, clear coordination, and attention to stigma, equity, and trust.

This recorded webinar will explore the updated recommendations through real-world case studies and clinical examples, highlighting interdisciplinary collaboration and strategies to support families from birth through the first year of life.
