Opioids, Opioid Use Disorders, and Alternatives

This presentation will provide an in-depth understanding of opioid use, its effects, and treatment options. It will cover the risks and signs of opioid misuse, opioid use disorder (OUD), and the diversion of prescription opioids into the illegal market. The presentation will explore Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), alternative pain management options, and non-opioid therapies for acute and chronic pain. Additionally, it will discuss overdose prevention strategies, including the use of naloxone (Narcan), and highlight the importance of professional and community resources in addressing the opioid crisis. 

Target Audience: Perinatal Nurses, Social Workers, Addiction Counselors, Mental Health Providers

Learning Outcome: At the conclusion of the program, at least 90% of participants will report that the knowledge gained met their learning needs.
